How to Shop at the Co-op

Please check out the information below before you come to shop at the Co-op!

Hygiene while shopping

  1. Please don’t come to the Co-op if you are unwell in any way. We would love to fulfill an online order for you instead!
  2. Wash your hands thoroughly upon entry, and as you shop. We have hand-washing stations in the bathroom; kitchen, and near the freezer at cafe.
  3. Please use a clean scoop for each product. We have convenient Clean and Used Scoops buckets to make this easy.
  4. Please drop off jars for donation to the Co-op on the shelf to the RIGHT of the kitchen door. These will be machine-sanitised so they are safe to use again!
  5. You can pick up free, sanitised jars to use while shopping from the shelf underneath the scales at the front.
  6. Please bring your CARD to shop – we aren’t taking cash at this time.
  7. At the checkout, please place your own products on the weigh-scales.

Families are an important part of our Co-op community. The above restrictions and need to reduce hygiene risks means that where possible, it’s best if you can leave your kids at home when coming to shop. We understand that this isn’t possible for everyone. Please note our guidelines for shopping with your little ones in the panel above if this applies to you.

Hygiene for your kids

We understand that shopping without kids isn’t possible for everyone, so please follow these guidelines for shopping with kids at the Co-op:

  1. If you can, please keep your kids secure in a carrier or pram. If that’s not possible;
  2. Please wash your kids’ hands thoroughly upon entry (as well as your own)
  3. Please do not allow your kids to touch the food containers, scoops, benches, or the food itself.
    1. If children touch any food inside the containers, the Co-op will require you to purchase the entire container of food due to risk of contamination. We hope you understand that contamination by tiny fingers is a risk we can’t take!
    2. If children touch the food containers, please tell the coordinator on duty so that the container may be sanitised.

If you feel you won’t be able to keep your kids from touching things inside the Co-op, we would love to fulfill online orders for you for home delivery or instore pickup instead!

Thank you to everyone for your cooperation. Together, we can stay healthy and well fed!

Shopping at the Co-op

We are proud to be a majority bulk grocery store. Shopping in bulk means that you can buy as little or as much as you need. This drastically reduces food wastage and allows for shoppers to bring or re-use packaging, avoiding the use and disposal of single-use packaging.

Shopping at the Co-op is as easy as 1-2-3:

1. Bring your containers and bags from home OR use the free, pre-used and cleaned containers and bags that we have at the Co-op. We also sell: paper bags in various sizes; cellophane bags.

2. Take note of whether the product is costed by weight or volume. If by volume, check that you know the volume of the container you’re using. If by weight, weigh the container on the scales provided and note its weight so that this can be deducted from the cost of the item at the point-of-sale. There are markers next to the scales to make this easy. You can write the volume or weight directly on the containers or you can make a list.

3. Fill up your containers from our supply of bulk products and you’re ready to check out at the counter. Make sure you keep track of the products you’ve chosen – we have many similar-looking types of flours, oats, lentils etc. In particular note whether it is organic or conventional for items that we stock both of.

If you’re a member or working member, don’t forget to mention so at the counter to get your 5% or 20% discount! Find out more about becoming a member.

We also offer Click-and-Collect online ordering!
